About Us

Our Story

At GSECC, we’re more than a school—we’re a cooperative community of educators, families, and children, growing together with care and joy.

Founded in October 2023 in Greenwood, Seattle, we are an educator-owned childcare cooperative where teachers share in decision-making and bring their expertise into how the center is shaped. This means the people who know children best are helping guide every part of our program.

Our play-based learning is rooted in social-emotional development, so children gain the skills that matter most for life:

  • Empathy — learning to care for and understand others

  • Resilience — building confidence through challenges and exploration

  • Self-expression — through art, storytelling, and imaginative play

  • Collaboration — solving problems and working together as friends

Each September, classrooms move up together as a group, creating stability and belonging. Children grow side by side with their peers and teachers, strengthening bonds and carrying a sense of community year after year.

FAQ

Need to Know

We understand that choosing the right preschool comes with many questions — and we’re here to help!
Do you accept Subsidies?

Yes! We accept Washington State and City of Seattle subsidies. Please note that subsidy approval and payment confirmation must be received prior to the start of care.

What is your snow/emergency closure policy?

Families will be notified by 6:00 a.m. of any snow, weather-related, or emergency closures. Closure decisions are based on road conditions and staff availability, as some staff commute from areas outside Seattle where roads may be less safe or plowed. We will always aim to provide as much notice as possible and minimize closures when conditions allow. Thank you for your understanding during circumstances beyond our control.

Are you inclusive?

Yes. We are committed to providing high-quality care to all children. We welcome children with medical needs, developmental delays, and behavioral needs, and we partner closely with families as each child grows and their needs evolve. We also value and honor children’s home cultures and strive to create opportunities for children to experience, interact with, and learn alongside people of diverse cultures, backgrounds, and abilities.

Do you expel children from care?

We are committed to keeping children in care whenever it is safe and appropriate to do so. We have an expulsion-prevention policy designed to support children who may display challenging or aggressive behaviors. When concerns first arise, we partner with families to develop a safety plan for the child and classroom. In some situations, this may include asking a child to go home for the day if behaviors escalate and we are unable to safely support them at that time. If we reach a point where we can no longer provide safe care for all children, we will work with families to explore alternative care options. This policy is fully outlined in our Family Handbook.

Parent Testimonials

"The staff were caring, attentive, skilled and communicative. As well as stellar day to day care they organized little projects like finger painting that I would never have done if I was at home with them."
- David N
"We just wrapped 2 years here. If you're considering this place, I would definitely recommend it. All the staff are well qualified and very kind. The food prepared by Chef Jess is outstanding. The communication is solid (they use the Brightwheel app and provide pictures throughout the day). And generally I just feel like my kid has been loved by the team. We're headed into kindergarten and despite my son being one of the youngest kids in his class, we feel ready. Thank you GSECC team!"
- Noel Frame
"I feel so fortunate to have gotten my child into this daycare. It's a lovely, clean space, with a variety of activities and the teachers are fantastic and conscientious. My son and I both love it. And they take the babies to the park in an adorable little baby wagon! I absolutely recommend GSECC to anyone looking for daycare in Northwest Seattle."
- Amy Linn
"Great staff and awesome environment/community surrounding this place. My daughter has been in two classrooms now and I can't recommend this place enough.
