About the Role
As a support staff at GSECC you will be required to give breaks, teachers time for planning or other meetings, step into a classroom and fulfill any duties of a classroom teacher while you are covering their classroom. You are required to plan and implement any activities the teachers ask while you are in the classroom. Other duties might include cleaning or organizing classrooms or closets relating to GSECC, filing, or any other duties assigned that day.
Requirements
Qualifications:
16 years or older
Have a Merit Account
Clear Merit Background Check
High school Diploma/GED
Negative TB Test (or clear chest Xray)
Covid Vaccine, with proof
Meet STARS requirements First Aid/CPR/Bloodborne Pathogens
Food Handlers Permit
Some knowledge of child development
Some experience working with children
Support of a child-centered teaching philosophy
STARS 30-Hour Basic Training
Strong communication skills
Responsibilities will include butnot limited to the following:
Assume the duties of the classroom teachers as you step in to provide breaks, planning time or subbing for illness/ vacation
Responsive to children’s basic needs
Maintain a safe and healthy environment
Ability to pretend to eat imaginary and playdough food with realistic enthusiasm
Comfort speaking to adults about confidential and awkward information
Maintain confidentiality
Ability to Lift 30-60lbs
Follow directions given by lead teacher Flexibility to work in all classrooms
Use appropriate behavior management and follow the centers guidelines on appropriate classroom discipline
Some knowledge of children’s entertain- ment such as Frozen, Superheroes, Minions, Disney, Octonauts, etc...
Ability to read the same stories over and over
Ability to multitask
Focus in High Noise levels
